Central Asian Koran

Central Asian QUR'AN Manuscript.

[Incomplete, Volume 2 (of 2) only.] Number of leaves: 278; size: 24.5 x 34.8 cm; written surface: 16.6 x 28.2 cm; 10 lines to a page, in clear, unusually large naski script, in black ink on off-white paper. The text is vocalized throughout with recitational markings in red. Marginal water staining at the bottom of most folios. First and last leaves repaired. The copyist has not numbered the suras and mentions the names of the suras irregularly. The manuscript has some decorations, notably on folio 1a above the opening sura and on folio 1b at the beginning of the page. Till folio 156b, there are colorful marginal decorative indicators, composed of geometric figures with floral patterns. After 156b, the decorations are more sparse. The divisions of verses are indicated by red dots. The handwriting is clear, although the copyist seems to have made a few mistakes that have been corrected. This manuscript begins at Sura 10, Maryam, and is the second volume of a two volume copy. It was writtten by al-Hajj Muhammad Ibn Muhammad an-Nakfi in the year 1284 AD/1867 AD. Bound in contemporary brown morocco, with a flap, in the Arabic style. Both covers are tooled and have been recently rebacked. The calligraphic style indicates a Central Asian provenance.
$1800.
